[Update]
Okey, now its geting all very confusing surrounding the game Cane & Lynch. Apparently on the German site for the game, they have posted qouat quote from various gamesites, giving the game top review. One of those is apparently Kotaku, which they didn’t! I’m starting to feel bad for the developers, not the publishers!
One of the hottest news and discussion topics in the game world have been about GameSpot, one of their now formerly editor-in-cheif and the game Kane & Lynch. Jeff Gerstmann, 11 year review veteran at Gamespot have been forced to leave, and still we don’t know why.
The rumors has it, he have been let go cause a review of the game Kane & Lynch. The publisher, Edios had bougt a fucking lot of advertising space, the whole first page:

And the review score ended at an average 6/10, which is in line with other review sources for the game. The video review have been removed, along with the ad and Jeff Gerstmann. It could be a coincident, but something doesn’t seem right. Cnet, the owner of Gamespot haven’t clearly come out and declined it, and made it believable.
The discussion now, is whether Jeff had to go cause Edios as advertisers demanded it. Which if correct, will destroy the reputation of Gamespot and Cnet. And I have talked about this before… Advertisers should never have an impact on the review. A big marketing budget won’t make a game better! One of the most important role of the game journalist are to cover game news and review games, not for fun, but to help us consumer and guide us in the jungle of games! And when a game like Kane & Lynch get hyped like it has, the expectations rise. And if the game doesn’t deliver, it isn’t the game reviewers fault.
And the rampage of this news have spread and been a big discussion on the web, this isn’t gonna be the last we hear of this.
